Archives and Special Collections

Personal Papers of faculty, staff, students, and alumni may be donated to the archives in consultation with the archivist. These collections serve as an important historical record and add to the broader history of IU Northwest. The guidelines below include a general list of materials accepted or not accepted. This list is not exhaustive. Materials not cited below may be discussed in consultation with the archivist. Materials generally accepted under personal papers: 

  • Biographical information (vitae)
  • Departmental and committee records
  • Correspondences (letters, emails, memos)
  • Diaries and journals
  • Teaching materials (course descriptions, syllabi, original notes, lesson plans)
  • Research files (manuscripts, raw data, reports, unique materials largely unpublished)
  • Speeches
  • Photographs 
  • Service work
  • Recordings

Materials generally not included in personal papers:

  • Duplicates of publications
  • Personal legal, financial, and medical information
  • Personal libraries
  • Professional materials relating to tenure, promotion, performance reviews, letters of recommendation, or recruitment
  • Grades, transcripts, or Course Teacher Evaluations
  • Artifacts/3D objects (unless consulted with the archives)
  • Outdated equipment (typewriters, tape recorders, VHS players, etc..)
