Due to cuts to the Indiana State Library budget, as of August 1, access to several databases made available through the INSPIRE program will be significantly altered or unavailable as we seek access through alternative avenues.

Funding cuts to the Indiana State Library (ISL) and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) have caused downgrades and loss of access to EBSCO databases provided through the INSPIRE program.
IU libraries are working toward restoring access. Until then, below you will find the affected databases and your article access options.
The library has several options to obtain a specific article. These options have been available prior to the current situation, will remain available afterward, and bridge gaps in access to all our holdings - not just for journals affected by funding cuts.
LibKey Nomad and Google Scholar are a potent combination when looking for a specific article.
LibKey Nomad is a browser plug-in that can be used to link quickly and easily to an article when available. The plug-in is especially helpful while off campus. An article's page might claim no access, but Nomad may find we have a subscription elsewhere.
Use the Download LibKey Nomad page to get started. This guide explains what it is with more depth and how to install it.
Meanwhile, Google Scholar can directly link you to an article's page, and may show access through library subscriptions or freely on the web. Please note: Google Scholar is ONLY recommended for finding a SPECIFIC article. Please use a library database if trying to find articles on a topic. It is best to use the library's Google Scholar link on this page rather than going straight to Google Scholar.
ILLiad is our next best recommendation. This service allows you to submit a request to our interlibrary loan office to see if another library can send the article to our library, to then send on to you.
An account is NOT already set up for you in ILLiad. You must create one. This guide can assist if you need guidance, and you can reach out to the library if you have issues or need more direct help.
Please note: Articles obtained through ILLiad take time to process. Interlibrary loan normally operates Mondays - Thursdays, and involves a) our library sending the request, and b) a lending library scanning or uploading the article and sending it to us. Articles may process within the same day, but they could take up to 2 full business days.
When using LibKey Link or LibKey Nomad, you may reach a page that mentions a service called Get It Now. If available, clicking on the "Full Text Online" button will take you to a form where you must enter your IU E-mail address before submission. Afterward, you should receive the article to that E-mail address within 8 hours (often much sooner).
This method is a "last resort" for access, and it normally only operates during evenings and weekends (including Fridays). Each article obtained this way uses money from the library's budget to process, whereas access through ILLiad is much cheaper (often free).
