Community Patron Guide

This guide is intended to clearly lay out policies and provide resources as relevant to community patrons.

What is a Community Patron?

Within the Indiana University Northwest library, community patron is defined as a person who is not enrolled or working at Indiana University, but is an Indiana resident OR an Ivy Tech student.

Still Need Help?

As an academic institution, our library is primarily focused on assisting patron needs related to research and academic pursuits. As noted under our library policies, assistance by library staff is limited to technical issues involving computer and printer access. Librarians can assist beyond technical issues with the following stipulations.

The questions and needs we will not assist with include, but are not limited to:

  • Legal or medical questions
  • Word transcription aka "secretarial duties"
  • Proofreading or similar "editorial duties"
  • Completing resumes/job applications, paying bills, or similar personal matters

This list is subject to change without notice, as we cannot expect to know every scenario in advance. Librarians have the discretion to deny assisting with a question if they believe it falls outside the scope of reasonable and expected library support for community patrons.

Research Consultations
