Community Patron Guide

This guide is intended to clearly lay out policies and provide resources as relevant to community patrons.

What is a Community Patron?

Within the Indiana University Northwest library, community patron is defined as a person who is not enrolled or working at Indiana University, but is an Indiana resident OR an Ivy Tech student.

Library Privileges

The John W. Anderson Library at Indiana University Northwest provides the following services to community patrons. Available services are subject to change without notice.

  • Check out up to 3 physical books or media at a time
    • Book loan period: 30 days
    • Media loan period: 14 days
  • Renewals are possible as long as a recall or hold on the item has not been placed by another patron
    • Failure to return recalled items within 2 weeks will incur a $25 fine per item
  • Check out headphones
    • Loan period: Return by end of day
  • Computer access
    • Includes access to internet and Microsoft Office programs
    • Two sessions of up to 2 hours each per day
  • Printing and copying
    • Service currently unavailable, in progress - 6/11/24
    • Requires adding at least $1 to an IU Print card
    • Refer to this page for cost
    • We provide ONLY letter size, and paper cannot be removed to put different paper in
  • Adaptive Technology Room
    • This room supports individuals with visual disabilities; includes JAWS and magnifier
  • Indiana residents and Ivy Tech students may get a library card at the Public Service Desk at any time the library is open. To get a card you will need to show one of the following:
    • Current Indiana Driver's License
    • Current Indiana State Identification
    • Valid Ivy Tech ID and Indiana or Illinois Driver's License or State Identification
