Due to cuts to the Indiana State Library budget, as of August 1, access to several databases made available through the INSPIRE program will be significantly altered or unavailable as we seek access through alternative avenues.

The Archives is currently on a temporary pause from accepting new donations. This pause allows us to focus on organizing and processing existing collections so we can ensure their sustainable preservation and make them more accessible for research and community use. We deeply value the interest and generosity of potential donors, and we will share an update once we are able to resume accepting new materials.
While larger donations must be deferred, smaller donations may be considered on a case-by-case basis. All donations must be accompanied by a completed Deed of Gift arranged in advance.
Scanning requests can be accommodated as time allows. Staff may provide up to about 20 pages of scans free of charge. For more extensive scanning needs, we recommend working with a proxy researcher.
In-person researchers can take (non-flash) photographs of the materials adhering to these same rules as scanned documents:
Copies are provided exclusively for private study, scholarship, or research use.
The researcher agrees not to transfer duplicates to others.
If duplicated photographs are intended for official publication (media use, documentaries, social media, journals, books, etc.) Please consult the Photograph Request Form below.
For those who are unable to visit the Archives in person due to time, distance, or resources, we offer limited remote research services to the best of our current capacity. With detailed direction from patrons, staff may conduct focused research within the holdings for up to one hour. This may include tasks such as:
Please note: staff role is limited to locating and facilitating access to materials, they cannot provide interpretation or analysis of the materials. Our staff will do their very best to try and find the requested materials, but archival research can be time-consuming and complex; there is no guarantee that the requested information will be found within the allotted hour. If that occurs, we may recommend scheduling an in-person visit or engaging a proxy researcher.
