Madam Walker was an African American entrepreneur, philanthropist, and the first female self-made millionaire in the United States.
A pioneer in the hair care and beauty industry, Madam Walker moved her headquarters to Indianapolis in the early 19th Century. Today the Madam C.J. Walker Building in Indianapolis is designated as a Historic Landmark.
