Phrase Searching

Using quotes around a phrase will narrow the search to look for that specific phrase. Often times, a phrase will have many words connected to mean something. For example, the popular phrase “Better late than never” has multiple parts to it. By placing it in quotes it searches for those words together.

Try using quotes to search for common phrases relating to American History I. For example, when searching in a database such as JSTOR or a search engine like Google, use quotes to narrow your search to specific and relevant types of results.

Ex: "Great Awakening"

Other uses: Quotes are great for specific laws/acts, long names, theories, or titles of publications for example.
