The Story of Consuelo Ornelas-Garcia: Northwest Indiana's First Hispanic Nurse: High School Years

 

Connie attended Lew Wallaces’ elementary and high school. She directed her talents to the Girl’s Athletic Association (GAA) and fine arts. She submitted essays and poems to the Gary Optimist Club and the Gary Post Tribune. Connie’s published poems were: “Spring and Sassafras,”( May 25, 1940), and “Forever Wear a Song,( March 22, 1941). Connie participated in Lew Wallace’s tenth annual graduation ceremonies and received her diploma held at Memorial Auditorium in June 1941.
