Due to cuts to the Indiana State Library budget, as of August 1, access to several databases made available through the INSPIRE program will be significantly altered or unavailable as we seek access through alternative avenues.
To make it easier to access materials needed for your courses, the library maintains a collection of materials that your instructors have requested be placed On Reserve. Be aware that it takes approximately one week to process materials before they are available.
Material placed On Reserve by instructors is also kept in the Reserve Area which is located at the Service Desk. Reserve items may be books, articles, old exams, audio materials, or video cassettes.
Please use our IUCAT Reserves Search to find materials that are On Reserve.
Generally speaking, only Indiana University students, faculty and staff may take out materials on reserve. Patrons wishing to use Reserve materials must have their Indiana University CrimsonCard. This is the only item that may be used to borrow materials on Reserve. The Library also keeps a few special items on reserve such as preparation books for the GMAT, GRE, LSAT, and Police Officer Exams.
Most On Reserve materials may not leave the library. There is a limit of one item per student which may be checked out at one time. Be advised that the Reserve materials have significant fines for overdues. All materials must always be returned to the Reserve Desk to avoid a fine.
Each instructor designates which category of Reserve will be used. There are four loan periods available:
One to Four Days
The item may be checked out at any time and may be returned at any time on the specified due date.
One Week
The item may be checked out at any time and may be returned at any time on the specified due date.
2 Hour Materials
1 - 4 Day & 1 Week Materials
There is a $5.00 fine plus replacement cost for a lost or mutilated item.
There is a $25.00 fine plus replacement cost for non-returned tapes, cd's, and audio/video cassettes.
Faculty and support staff for faculty can fill out a request form to place materials On Reserve for their course(s).
