The John W. Anderson library consists of various deparments and units to assist students in their research needs. Each department/unit provides one or more services to make it easier for students to learn at IU Northwest. Below are details about the services that are available to you.
Purpose: To check out and/or renew circulating books; maintain photocopiers and vendacard machine; maintain video collection and periodicals (magazines, journals and newspapers)
When to Use: You should go to this department: to check out library books using your IU Northwest id card; to renew library books; to pay late fees; to get off of the bursar's checklist due to unpaid library fines; to read microforms; to get assistance with the photocopiers and vendacard machine; to get current library journals, magazines and/or newspapers; to deposit to or retrieve something from the library's "Lost and Found;" and to use the paper cutter

Illiad (Electronic Interlibrary Loan)
Purpose: To make an electronic request to obtain photocopies of articles and book chapters and to borrow books, etc. from other libraries
When to Use: If you need books not in the IU Libraries system and other reading materials that IU Northwest does not have, you may request these materials using this service. In some databases the link is labeled "Illiad" but, in other databases the link is labeled, "Request Through Interlibrary Loan."

Information Commons
Purpose: To provide students with computers to access; to find answers to questions; to direct students to appropriate resources; to teach individuals how to use library resources
When to Use: When you need assistance at the Help Desk to find information, to get help from the IT consultants or to use the computers on the first floor
Go to the Help Desk if: You have a question regarding homework. You want to locate information. You want to learn how to use a library resource You want to get directions to a person, room, building or campus activity. You want to sign in to use a scanner or laptop. You want to use a three-hole puncher.

Purpose: This is where professors leave reading materials, e.g. articles, books, book chapters, textbooks, for students to sign out from the Reserve desk. Students have these materials for a limited time to read within the library.
When to Use: If your professor has left supplementary or required reading materials at the Reserve desk for you to read, you must present your university id to the attendant at the desk before you can sign out the materials from the Reserve desk. These materials do not leave the library.

System Services (Interlibrary Loan)
Purpose: This library unit processes the requests that you submit through Illiad, the electronic interlibrary loan service or through Request Delivery via the IUCAT, the library's online catalog. When the materials arrive, the staff in this library unit leaves the articles at the Help Desk and the books are left at the Circulation Desk for you to pick up. You are contacted and told where you can pick up the items. When you return the books to this staff, they return the books to the lending libraries.
When to Use: If you have problems using Illiad, the electronic interlibrary loan service, you should come to this office or to the Help Desk in the Information Commons for assistance.
